As the Senior Vice President of Credit Risk Management, you will oversee credit risk assessment and decision-making, utilizing your delegated authority to manage credit exposure for both new and existing clients. You will ensure that suitable lending frameworks and controls are established to address the unique risks associated with the transactions under review. Collaboration with business units to structure credit facilities that align with company standards, regulatory requirements, and client expectations will be essential. You will report directly to the Sector Head.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business Impact: Collaborate with lenders and debt management teams to ensure responsiveness, achieve portfolio exposure targets, minimize credit costs, and maintain profitable credit exposures.
  • Credit Analysis: Conduct thorough evaluations of clients' business models, financial performance, management, and industry trends, providing guidance on credit underwriting.
  • Credit Limit Approval: Review and authorize individual credit limits for large and complex loans, ensuring compliance with credit approval policies.
  • Portfolio Management: Maintain ongoing credit quality through regular risk assessments and necessary remediation actions.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to Bank Credit Policy and risk appetite guidelines, as well as all regulatory requirements.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Engage with responsible business unit relationship managers and senior management.
  • Leadership: Guide the evaluation and structuring of complex credit proposals, identifying potential risks and providing solutions.
  • Collaboration: Build strong relationships with business units to address client needs while managing risk profiles.
  • Training: Provide training and expertise on the credit approval process to junior staff.

Operational Excellence:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of credit policies to ensure integrity in the credit process.
  • Work with compliance teams to manage compliance risks and foster a culture of compliance.
  • Complete additional responsibilities as assigned.

Challenges:

  • Evaluate complex corporate risks and make sound credit decisions under tight deadlines.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with business units to support growth while ensuring credit quality.
  • Exhibit integrity by escalating issues to uphold the highest standards of compliance and risk management.

Role Context:
This position carries credit approval authority for various banking sectors, with significant limits for new transactions and renewals. The role requires independent judgment and the ability to act within established authority.

Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with operational risk controls and optimize relationships with regulators.
  • Maintain accurate risk ratings for all credit facilities.

Internal Controls:

  • Adhere to HSBC's internal control standards and implement audit recommendations.
  • Manage compliance risks in collaboration with compliance officers.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10 years of extensive experience in credit, lending, or related fields.
  • Strong knowledge of credit products and relevant regulations.
  • Proven ability to assess and discuss credit risks in complex proposals.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • A bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field.
  • Credit training or equivalent experience.
