Job Title: Staff Optical Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Optical Engineer to join our team at Molex. As a key member of our R&D team, you will be responsible for developing and conducting simulations of physical transport layer of various fiber-optic communication networks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Developing and maintaining optical transmission system testing bed in full characterization of optical components and modules
  • Developing system design rules, link-level optical line system control algorithm, and other innovative ideas for communication systems improvements
  • Participating in development projects in system engineer role from conceptual, development, and full NPI
  • Supporting technical discussion with customers for best use of Molex solutions and products
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of building blocks of fiber-optic transmission systems: Optical Transceivers, DWDM/WDM Filters, Optical Amplifiers, Raman Amplifiers, Dynamic Gain Equalizer (DGE), Wavelength Selective Switch (WSS), etc.
  • Knowledge of optical transmission system, nonlinear optics, and related mathematics, and communications theory
  • Knowledge and experience in creating simulation models for communication systems and using the models to analyze and optimize the system
  • Strong analytical skills and extensive experience with programming languages used in computer modeling of communication systems (e.g. Matlab, C++, Python)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or similar field
  • 7 years of experience in academia and industry in the area of simulating and modeling system and component for optical communications
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
