Medical Assistant

As a Medical Assistant at William Newton Memorial Hospital, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care in our office setting. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality care that meets the psychosocial, physical, and general aspects of care, while ensuring effective communication with patients and their families. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and/or physician, you will maintain regulatory requirements, nursing and office policies, procedures, and standards.
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care, evaluating outcomes and consulting with other healthcare team members as needed.
- Assist medical staff with routine examinations and patient treatments, including pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients.
- Notify licensed personnel when patients complain of pain.
- Perform patient care responsibilities considering the standard of care for patients of all ages.
- Ensure patient safety and reduce the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors.
- Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles over the lifespan and provide age-appropriate care.
- Implement medical and surgical asepsis during treatments and special procedures.
- Position and prep patients for office procedures.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers, practitioners, and the Office Manager.
- Assist practitioners with procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills.
- Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity, addressing their psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs.
- Interact professionally with patients and families, involving them in patient education.
- Maintain infection control standards for exam/procedure rooms, clean and disinfect, and change linen as needed.
- Maintain office instruments, sterilization techniques, and biological indicators.
- Maintain established office policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
- Collect and prepare blood/fluid samples for laboratory testing.
- Maintain monthly laboratory QC and log for all in-house testing.
- Complete lab requisitions and provide accurate information for billing.
- Answer telephone calls professionally, direct calls appropriately, refer patient problems to practitioners, and schedule appointments.
- Manage clinic inventory, ensuring an adequate stock of supplies.
- Assist in cost containment through appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment.
- Maintain a good working relationship with all staff members.
- Operate equipment safely and correctly, performing preventative maintenance.
- Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under stressful situations.
- Respond appropriately in emergency or physically distressful situations.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the medical assistant's scope of practice.
- Adhere to dress code standards, appearance is neat and clean.
- Complete annual educational requirements.
- Maintain regulatory requirements, including state, federal, and CMS regulations.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Report to work on time and as scheduled, complete work within designated time.
- Wear identification while on duty, use computerized time system correctly.
- Attend annual review and in-services as scheduled.
- Complete in-services and return in a timely fashion.
- Attend staff meetings and read staff meeting minutes.
- Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner in the community.
- Participate in the department's quality improvement CQI activities, attend committee and management meetings as appropriate.
- Comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
- Communicate the mission, vision, core values, ethics, and goals of the hospital.
- Work at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with practitioners, departments, and staff.
- Ensure compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire safety, and infection control.
- Current CPR certification.
