Position Overview

We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Thermal Engineer to join our innovative Space Resources Program team. This role focuses on the advancement and demonstration of In-Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU) technologies for lunar and extraterrestrial applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, simulate, and enhance thermal management systems for ISRU technologies, emphasizing high-temperature and high-current applications, including reactors and electrolysis systems.
  • Engage in all phases of product development, from initial concept through design, implementation, integration, and environmental testing in simulated space conditions.
  • Conduct thorough thermal analyses and simulations to forecast system performance under various space environmental scenarios.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure the effective integration of thermal systems within complex ISRU platforms.
  • Lead the planning, execution, and evaluation of thermal tests, ensuring compliance with rigorous space mission specifications.
  • Establish and manage thermal specifications and interface requirements for ISRU systems and components.
  • Act as a vital thermal engineering resource, offering guidance and expertise to project teams and stakeholders.
  • Document and maintain detailed records of designs, analyses, and test outcomes for knowledge sharing and future reference.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.

7+ years of experience in thermal engineering, particularly in high-temperature and high-current systems applicable to space environments.

Proven expertise in thermal modeling and simulation tools tailored for space applications.

Hands-on experience in designing, testing, and integrating thermal management systems for space hardware, especially ISRU technologies.

Strong grasp of heat transfer principles, thermal management techniques, and material selection for high-temperature and high-current space conditions.

Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver spaceflight hardware within stringent timelines.

Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related fields.

10+ years of relevant experience in thermal engineering for space systems, focusing on ISRU technologies.

Extensive experience with thermal management in high-temperature and high-current applications, including reactors and electrolysis systems.

Proficient in environmental testing of space hardware, particularly in thermal vacuum conditions.

Familiarity with CAD software for designing thermal management systems and conducting analyses.

Experience with thermal analysis of various heating methods, including inductive and microwave heating in vacuum environments.
