We are in search of a Vice President of Strategic Partnerships to be a vital member of the Business Development team, collaborating closely with cross-functional partners to advance initiatives that align with our corporate goals. This position reports directly to the Chief Business Officer and collaborates with other management team members on a variety of corporate functions, including in-licensing, out-licensing, competitive analysis, and strategic planning. The ideal candidate will not only have strong business acumen but also exhibit excellent leadership skills, strong interpersonal abilities, and a proven history of engaging with both internal and external senior stakeholders.

The successful candidate will significantly contribute to identifying and expanding new business development opportunities across diverse therapeutic areas and technology platforms, including the partnership of existing programs, R&D collaborations, and enabling technology partnerships. They will spearhead sourcing, evaluation, and contracting activities for multiple strategic alliances across biopharma, contract organizations, and academic institutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designing and implementing Business Development and partnership strategies. Sourcing, developing, structuring, and negotiating business and financial terms for in-licensing and out-licensing agreements.
  • Overseeing the execution of a wide range of business development transactions. Formulating and executing a BD strategic plan in collaboration with the senior leadership team.
  • Collaborating with members of the Business Development, Finance, and Legal teams to execute business transactions, conduct product/market assessments, and lead due diligence and contracting processes.
  • Leading competitive intelligence efforts to monitor and communicate transaction activities within the biotech sector, particularly in Caribou's domain.
  • Working closely with Caribou's Research and Development teams to develop external innovation strategies and assist in formulating Business Development strategies for the company's technology platforms and programs.
  • Leading cross-functional teams from due diligence through contract execution.
  • Creating presentation materials for partnership and out-licensing initiatives.
  • Collaborating with Research and Development to support search and evaluation efforts to identify potential partners and in-licensing opportunities for our research and product portfolio.
  • Establishing effective internal communication channels for Business Development activities and educating the broader organization on business development concepts and considerations.
  • Partnering with Finance to develop informative financial deal models.
  • Representing Caribou at partnering and scientific meetings with a high degree of business integrity while adhering to all company policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 5-15% of the time.
Candidate Qualifications:
  • BA, BSc, or equivalent; a degree in life sciences is preferred; a PhD, MBA, or equivalent business/financial experience is strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of business experience, with at least 8 years in Pharmaceuticals and a minimum of 5 years in Business Development, demonstrating extensive pharmaceutical and biotech knowledge.
  • Proven ability to close deals, with a successful track record.
  • Collaborative working style with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience negotiating intellectual property licenses as both licensor and licensee.
  • Demonstrated experience in structuring collaborations and managing alliances.
  • Solid understanding of the drug development process; experience in gene and cell therapy development is preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of industry trends and the competitive landscape.
  • Ability to influence others to achieve common objectives and facilitate decision-making processes.
  • Experience in an external-facing role.
  • Confident, proactive approach with the ability to take initiative.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills.
