Position Overview:
The Financial Services Counselor 2-ED plays a crucial role in assisting patients seeking care in our Emergency or Advanced Urgent Care departments. This position is dedicated to guiding individuals through the financial processes from the initial medical screening examination (MSE) to either discharge or admission. The counselor is integral to the financial office operations and serves as a valuable resource for colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Verify patient benefits and eligibility, ensuring proper authorization from payers and medical groups.
2. Gather essential documentation to support authorization requests.
3. Maintain ongoing communication with payers, primary care physicians, and RN service coordinators as required.
4. Develop and implement financial agreements with patients and payers for both facility and professional services in accordance with established policies.
5. Perform additional duties as necessary to support the financial counseling team.

Qualifications:
1. High School Diploma or GED is mandatory.
2. A minimum of three years of customer service experience is required, preferably in hospital registration, physician's office, or medical group registration focusing on Managed Care, Medi-Cal, Medicare, and/or California Children's Services.
3. Familiarity with Federal, State, and County eligibility regulations is advantageous.

Skills and Competencies:
1. Exceptional customer service skills are essential.
2. Proficient in written and verbal communication in English, maintaining a professional demeanor.
3. Competent in using computers, printers, and relevant software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, patient accounting, registration, and insurance eligibility tools).
4. Ability to operate and troubleshoot basic office equipment.
5. Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
6. Capable of managing multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining attention to detail.
7. Must possess the ability to teach, collaborate, and accept direction while working independently with minimal supervision.

Physical Requirements:
1. Ability to distinguish colors as necessary for the role.
2. Adequate vision to read computer screens and written documents.
3. Ability to hear and communicate effectively in person and over the phone.
