Tax Manager

Compensation:

Salary: Ranges from $115,000 to $150,000 annually (commensurate with experience)

Employment Type: Full-Time Exempt

In accordance with applicable pay equity laws, compensation for this role is determined by factors such as education, experience, training, and location, alongside our firm's seniority and merit systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations while optimizing tax liabilities, adhering to organizational policies and professional standards.
  • Oversee comprehensive reviews of tax returns, addressing tax-related concerns with clients and engaging specialists as necessary.
  • Communicate tax accrual review issues to clients and audit teams.
  • Plan and assess tax-related processes and protocols, including budgeting and staffing considerations.
  • Monitor engagement timelines and actual hours worked against budget with support from senior staff.
  • Facilitate timely billing and manage activities outside the agreed scope, ensuring clear communication with clients.
  • Maintain client relationships and expectations in line with project specifications.
  • Provide prompt advice and insights to clients.
  • Identify research requirements and deliver clear analyses.
  • Uphold firm and professional standards in tax advisory and return preparation.
  • Engage firm specialists as required.
  • Assist in creating effective strategies to minimize clients' current and future tax obligations.
  • Act as a technical resource and ensure adherence to firm policies.
  • Frame projects and issues for effective delegation to senior staff and associates.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of technical and practical aspects of specific taxation areas.
  • Organize and lead internal training sessions in areas of expertise, involving firm specialists.
  • Introduce and cultivate innovative strategies to enhance clients' financial outcomes.
  • Review tax implication studies and propose alternative strategies.
  • Identify and utilize lessons learned from previous projects to enhance processes and methodologies.
  • Supervise Tax Staff and Senior Tax Staff across all assignments.
  • Review outputs from Tax Staff and Senior Tax Staff, providing constructive feedback.
  • Train Tax Staff and Senior Tax Staff on current software tools.
  • Serve as a Career Advisor, managing workloads and delivering performance evaluations.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required; MBA or Master of Accountancy is preferred.
  • A minimum of eight years of relevant tax experience.
  • CPA or EA certification is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of tax compliance and consulting principles.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Detail-oriented with a collaborative mindset.
  • Professional communication and documentation skills.
