Position Overview:

Job Summary
The Softball Coach Intern will report directly to the Head Softball Coach and may have additional reporting responsibilities related to assigned secondary duties. The primary responsibilities include assisting the Head Coach in all facets of the program, such as planning practices and game strategies, managing game day operations, and recruiting student-athletes in alignment with the academic objectives of the institution. A secondary responsibility may involve game management, intramural activities, club sports, facilities oversight, or strength and conditioning. This position is appointed for one year, with the possibility of renewal for up to three years. It is classified as a non-exempt position under applicable regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Head Coach in:
  • Identifying and recruiting academically qualified student-athletes
  • Conducting both off-campus and on-campus recruitment efforts
  • Organizing and leading structured practices
  • Managing responsibilities on game days
  • Exploring fundraising opportunities
  • Providing guidance to student-athletes and serving as a positive role model for all students
  • Complying with all NCAA, Conference, and institutional regulations
  • Building positive relationships with athletics staff and the broader community
  • Representing the institution professionally to various stakeholders
  • Completing additional tasks as assigned by the Head Coach
  • Executing the assigned secondary duty.
Qualifications:

Education and ExperienceA Bachelor's Degree is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesA profound understanding and enthusiasm for the game of Softball are essential. Candidates must possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to cultivate strong collaborative relationships. The role requires multitasking abilities and attention to detail, along with outstanding written and verbal communication skills. The candidate should be capable of interacting professionally with current and prospective students and their families, as well as faculty and staff. Proficiency in using technology and equipment specific to the sport is necessary.
Additional Requirements

  • A valid driver's license is required, along with the ability to drive and meet the institution's insurance criteria when operating university or leased vehicles. CPR, AED, and First Aid certification are preferred.
  • This position involves significant interaction with students and campus activities, which designates the individual as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) responsible for reporting any disclosed Clery Act crimes and completing annual CSA training.

Physical Demands:

The role necessitates the ability to stand or sit for extended periods and to navigate the campus. It requires effective communication skills to convey detailed instructions clearly and accurately. The position may involve lifting, pulling, and pushing, with the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
