Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Human Resources Specialist to join our team at Shelby County. The successful candidate will provide human resources support to assigned departments and/or elected official offices, providing advice and support on policies, regulations, and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide human resources support to assigned departments and/or elected official offices
- Advise and support clients on policies, regulations, and procedures regarding equal opportunity, recruitment and staffing processes, salary administration procedures and processes, employee separations, performance management and disciplinary procedures, employee benefits coordination and training coordination support
- Provide consultative direction to service constituents on best HR practices in specific situations
- Coordinate and facilitate timely responses to constituent needs
- Research employee relations issues and concerns and advise management on appropriate resolutions
- Develop and conduct training to instruct managers, supervisors, and workers in human relation skills
- Respond to inquiries regarding employment related transactions, policies, procedures, and programs
- Assist with new employee orientation/indoctrination procedures
- Assist with communications of benefits programs
- Direct employee separation processing and coordinate related documentation
- Prepare or direct the preparation of employee statistics for required compliance reporting
- Assist in the administration of the performance review program
- Maintain knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions
- Facilitate the interactive discussion process for ADA compliance
- Conduct investigations, draft reports, make determinations and/or recommendations
Requirements
- Three (3) years of experience as a human resources generalist or consultant with an exempt status
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in human resources, public or business administration, management, or other related field
- Or an equivalent combination of related education and/or experience
- Proof of education, training, and/or experience is required
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations
- Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with all levels of employees and constituencies
- Conflict resolution skills
- Ability to analyze complex information and to define and solve problems
- Good presentation skills including the ability to prepare and present training programs and materials
- General knowledge of employee benefit laws and regulations
- General knowledge of compensation administration principles and procedures
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
Special Requirements
- Must possess a valid Tennessee driver's license or secure one by date of employment
- Must have daily access to an operable automobile and meet county requirements for automobile insurance upon date of employment
- Work requires local travel to perform duties and attend meetings outside of the office
