Position Overview

Role Summary:

The Patient Intake Specialist will oversee all aspects of patient intake, including benefits verification, authorization processes, and financial counseling. This role requires close collaboration with Caregivers, Physicians, and various stakeholders to ensure seamless service delivery. Reporting directly to the Intake Manager and Program Manager, this individual will play a vital role in enhancing our patient care initiatives.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Possess in-depth knowledge of insurance policies related to infusion therapies and understand the essential criteria for accurate benefit verification and authorization.
  • Effectively navigate coverage guidelines and secure prior authorizations and necessary medical documentation.
  • Utilize pharmacy management software proficiently to manage infusion-related processes.
  • Maintain meticulous records and documentation to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance representatives to resolve inquiries and issues.
  • Demonstrate a proven ability to track and follow up on prior authorization requests.
  • Collaborate with the Hemophilia and related Bleeding Disorders Team, including Pharmacists and Nurses, to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as organizing patient files and supporting office operations.
  • Utilize pharmacy management systems for benefit investigations and authorization support.
  • Handle incoming calls and direct them appropriately.
  • Work closely with the revenue team to optimize billing and collections processes.
  • Commit to ongoing education regarding the services offered by the company and familiarize oneself with relevant medical terminology.
  • Uphold the company's mission and adhere to organizational policies and procedures.
  • Exhibit professionalism and ethical behavior in all interactions, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Contribute positively to team dynamics by promoting respect, effective communication, and a supportive work environment.
  • Adapt to changing work assignments to meet team needs and service demands.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Confidentiality and Compliance:

  • Safeguard patient and proprietary information at all times.
  • Adhere to legal and ethical standards to protect patient confidentiality.
  • Comply with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure all activities align with accreditation and safety standards.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent; a college degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of two years' experience in a similar role.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience in customer service, focusing on quality and satisfaction.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Excel and Word.
  • Ability to accurately calculate medication dosages and financial figures.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with hemophilia and related disorders.
  • Background in acute or specialty infusion pharmacy.
  • Familiarity with CPR+ Pharmacy Management System.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform tasks that involve standing, walking, sitting, and using office equipment. May require lifting up to 25 lbs. Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions without compromising patient care.
