Job Summary

Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a highly skilled Regulatory Development and Support Specialist to join our Risk Assessment & Management Services department. This is a challenging opportunity to work in a dynamic team environment and contribute to the development of regulatory frameworks that support the deployment of nuclear energy technologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead medium to large projects in a dispersed work team environment, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop regulatory frameworks that support the deployment of nuclear energy technologies.
  • Develop innovative solutions to complex regulatory challenges, requiring a broad-based and collaborative approach to provide effective solutions.
  • Work with industry partners, including commercial sector companies, other parts of the DOE's national laboratory complex, and regulatory agencies to confirm that developed approaches meet customer needs.
  • Lead significant regulatory framework development projects or tasks, building teams across organizations and participating in professional activities and external collaborations.
  • Proactively identify, promote, and develop new technical capabilities to develop and implement plans for new and significant project opportunities.
Requirements
  • BS degree in a scientific or engineering field plus 9 years relevant experience; or an MS degree plus 6 years relevant experience; or a PhD plus 4 years of relevant experience is required.
  • The selected candidate must be able to work in a culturally diverse environment.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy L clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with the commercial nuclear industry, state and federal regulators, and technology researchers at DOE labs is preferred.
  • Experience gained at operating nuclear facilities, including integrated plant safety systems operation and experience in NRC-licensee interactions, are a plus.
  • Regulatory experience with various types of reactors, including commercial nuclear power plant operations, advanced light water and non-light water reactor technologies, and test or research reactor facilities is strongly preferred.
