POSITION SUMMARY
The role of the Clinical Educator encompasses various responsibilities including educator, facilitator, change agent, leader, consultant, and researcher within the clinical domain. This position is pivotal in the creation, execution, and assessment of clinical orientation, competency, staff development, and ongoing educational programs.
The Clinical Educator is tasked with implementing and evaluating educational initiatives, revising content for orientation, mentorship, competency, staff development, and continuing education, all grounded in current evidence-based practices.
Compliance with local, regional, state, and national educational standards and guidelines is essential. The educator is responsible for fostering an effective learning atmosphere and utilizing technological resources effectively.A diverse range of teaching strategies will be employed, tailored to the characteristics, learning needs, cultural backgrounds, and generational perspectives of the learners, along with defined outcome objectives.
The educator will report on the outcomes of all educational initiatives and conduct surveys to gather feedback aimed at enhancing future educational offerings and demonstrating program effectiveness. Recommendations for improvements will be made to leadership based on these evaluations. Collaboration in program accreditation activities and reporting is also a key responsibility.Maintaining professional relationships with both internal and external stakeholders is crucial. The educator will keep certification and continuing education records up to date and may assist team members engaged in relevant internal clinical development programs. Collaboration with discipline-specific leaders to design and coordinate intern and fellowship programs is also expected. The educator will work alongside department leaders on quality and performance improvement projects related to clinical education initiatives.
Advocacy for professional development programs that cater to the needs of learners and the organization is a vital aspect of this role. Participation in both internal and external research initiatives is encouraged, which includes conducting literature searches and reviews, as well as analyzing and summarizing pertinent materials.
Travel to various facilities may be required to support site-specific initiatives during implementation phases and to ensure readiness for regulatory agency surveys.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Care program is required; a Bachelor's degree is mandatory.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Registration by the National Board for Respiratory Care is required. BLSHCP certification is mandatory.
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in education, management, or project leadership is required.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Demonstration of the ability to perform department-specific competencies as outlined in the Assessment and Evaluation Tool is expected.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Exposure to potential hazards and risks associated with the hospital environment, including infectious diseases, hazardous substances, electromagnetic radiation, and potential injuries, is a consideration. This position requires a combination of sitting, standing, walking, stooping, and crouching throughout the workday, along with the ability to push, pull, and lift objects weighing over fifty pounds. The ability to manage stressful situations is essential.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
This position reports directly to the Senior Director for Respiratory Care.
