Position Summary:

The Residential Adult Counselor (RAC) plays a vital role in our Adult Transitional Program (ATP), a trauma-informed housing initiative that offers 24/7 assistance to adults with mental health needs in a supportive, home-like environment. As a RAC, you will be instrumental in guiding residents on their path to wellness and independence. Your responsibilities will include providing comprehensive care, building trust-based relationships, and assisting residents in establishing healthy routines and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Recognize and respond to psychiatric crises or emotional distress, employing de-escalation techniques.
  2. Support residents in developing essential life skills, including nutrition, budgeting, and personal hygiene.
  3. Encourage access to community resources and coordinate recreational activities.
  4. Implement trauma-informed practices in all interactions and services.
  5. Assist in medication management and treatment plan development.
  6. Maintain the facility's orderliness and complete necessary documentation.
  7. Participate in staff meetings and ongoing training.

Work Environment:

This position involves moderate physical activity and may require driving. The role includes managing potential risks and exposure to challenging situations.

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a high school diploma or equivalent, with at least one year of full-time experience in a mental health support role preferred. Strong interpersonal skills, organizational abilities, and the capacity to work independently are essential. Candidates must demonstrate good judgment and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to see, hear, and speak clearly.
  • Capability to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.
  • Proficiency in using a computer and other office equipment.
