Position Overview: The San Diego office of SmithGroup is in search of a Fire Protection Engineer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support internal teams in assessing and designing Fire Protection and Alarm Systems for diverse projects.
  • Draft and review specifications for fire protection and alarm systems across various initiatives.
  • Conduct analysis of building and life safety codes for both new and existing structures.
  • Create life safety drawings and comprehensive narratives.
  • Participate in discussions with code officials and authorities having jurisdiction to evaluate and refine design compliance alternatives.
  • Apply and interpret National Building and Fire Codes and Standards relevant to specific projects.
  • Perform assessments of building conditions and code compliance evaluations for existing facilities.
  • Collaborate closely with fellow fire protection engineers to develop best practice solutions for intricate project fire protection and compliance challenges.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in fire protection engineering design.
  • A bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Fire Protection Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is preferred.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with clients and colleagues at all levels.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Revit MEP is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits: SmithGroup offers a competitive compensation and benefits package tailored to meet the diverse needs of our staff. The anticipated salary range for this position is $81,000 to $97,000 annually. Additionally, employees in this role are eligible for an annual performance-based bonus. We provide opportunities for retirement savings through our 401(k) program with employer matching and reimbursement for continuing education.
