Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Firefighter and Rescue Specialist to join our team at General Dynamics NASSCO. As a key member of our Safety and Fire Departments, you will be responsible for providing emergency medical response, fire suppression, and rescue services in a fast-paced shipyard environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to emergency calls and provide medical assistance as a first responder
  • Operate fire equipment, lay hose, and set up ladders to extinguish fires and make rescues
  • Administer first aid and participate in pre-fire and fire prevention inspections
  • Participate in drills and training activities to maintain and improve skills
  • Operate department emergency and non-emergency apparatus
Requirements
  • Basic knowledge of firefighting theories and concepts
  • Frequent use and application of technical standards, principles, and techniques
  • Successful completion of CSFM Firefighter 1 certification
  • Current CPAT or Biddle certification
  • Medical treatment skills up to par with San Diego protocol
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written applications
Working Conditions

This role requires working in a fast-paced shipyard environment with occasional exposure to dust, fumes, and smoke. The noise level is moderate to noisy 70% of the time. The employee must be able to spend up to 70% of time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates.

Accountability

The Firefighter and Rescue Specialist will be responsible for ensuring NASSCO's Injury and Illness Prevention Program meets company and regulatory requirements and is effectively implemented. They will also be responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the Safety and Fire Departments and for administering NASSCO's Fire Management System.
