Job Responsibilities and Qualifications

The Clinical Laboratory Specialist is responsible for collecting and preparing specimens, as well as conducting laboratory tests that aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. This role includes verifying, documenting, and reporting laboratory results accurately and promptly for all tests performed. Compliance with regulatory standards, hospital policies, and laboratory protocols is essential, including maintaining cleanliness in all work areas and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of human physiology and the impact of diseases relevant to the testing processes in your designated area.
  • Adhere to laboratory protocols for specimen management, testing procedures, result reporting, and maintaining patient test records.
  • Conduct only those tests authorized by the Laboratory Director, ensuring that your skills align with your education, training, and experience.
  • Execute various laboratory tests on specimens, assess results against established criteria, and accurately report/enter/verify results in the Laboratory Information System.
  • Identify and address issues that may negatively impact test performance or result reporting, and escalate concerns to the appropriate personnel when necessary.
  • Document all corrective measures taken when laboratory performance deviates from established standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a chemical, physical, biological, or other life sciences, along with relevant clinical laboratory experience within the past five years.
  • Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in laboratory medical technology with clinical rotation.
  • National registration as an MLS(ASCP)cm, MT(ASCP), or equivalent (e.g., AMT, AAB, HEW), or registry-eligible at the time of hire.
  • If not certified at the time of hire, national certification must be obtained within the first six months of employment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with all staff, patients, and vendors.
