Job Summary and QualificationsThe Clinical Laboratory Technologist is responsible for collecting and preparing specimens, as well as performing laboratory procedures essential for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. This role involves verifying, recording, and reporting lab results accurately and promptly for all tests conducted. Compliance with regulatory standards, hospital policies, and laboratory protocols is essential, including maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge of human physiology and the effects of diseases relevant to testing in your assigned section.
- Adhere to laboratory protocols for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining patient test result records.
- Conduct only those tests authorized by the Laboratory Director, ensuring your skills align with your education, training, and experience.
- Perform various laboratory tests on specimens, evaluate results against established criteria, and accurately report/enter/verify results in the Laboratory Information System.
- Identify and address issues that may impact test performance or result reporting, taking corrective action or notifying appropriate personnel.
- Document all corrective measures taken when laboratory performance deviates from established specifications.
Job Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a chemical, physical, biological, or other life sciences, along with relevant clinical laboratory experience within the last five years.
- Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in laboratory medical technology with clinical rotation.
- National Registration as an MLS(ASCP)cm, MT(ASCP), or equivalent (e.g., AMT, AAB, HEW), or registry-eligible at the time of hire.
- If not certified at the time of hire, national certification must be obtained within the first six months of employment.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with staff, patients, families, and vendors.
