Lead Financial Analyst

The Lead Financial Analyst operates within the Business Services department, reporting directly to the Accounting Manager. This role is pivotal in managing financial transactions and generating comprehensive financial analyses and reports for campus leadership, system administration, and state agencies, adhering to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Financial Analysts are tasked with preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, and ensuring the integrity of financial records through the utilization of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse's (UWL's) financial systems. Additional duties encompass recommending process enhancements and executing audit suggestions. Candidates should possess a robust understanding of GAAP and will be required to familiarize themselves with UWSA and UWL policies and procedures.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance from an accredited institution.
- Proficient knowledge of GAAP.
- Strong computer proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to engage respectfully with individuals from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
Desirable Qualifications
- Master's degree in business from an accredited institution.
- Eligibility for CPA certification.
- Experience with automated accounting systems and data analysis.
- Capability to interpret and analyze financial data to produce reports, complete reconciliations, or prepare journal entries.
- Skilled in developing computer queries for accurate data extraction and reporting.
- Experience in the higher education sector.
- Familiarity with governmental or fund accounting.
