About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Power Systems Engineering Intern to join our team at Arup. As a Power Systems Engineering Intern, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects related to decarbonized energy systems, including design and analysis of renewable energy sources, transmission and distribution infrastructure, and electrical power systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and analyze decarbonized energy systems, including renewable energy sources, transmission and distribution infrastructure, and electrical power systems.
  • Assist in the design, analysis, and simulation of electrical power systems, including renewable energy sources.
  • Perform various power system studies, such as short circuit, cable ampacity, Arc flash, Load flow, and Energy yield.
  • Responsible for the design of solar facilities, substations, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) under the direction of senior engineering staff.
  • Perform engineering and design calculations, such as Grounding Study, Short circuit study, Cable Ampacity study, Load Flow study, ARC Flash, and AC/DC voltage drop calculation.
  • Ready to learn and deliver various aspects of Solar and substation design, including sizing of DC and AC cable and its layout.
  • Ready to learn transmission and distribution line design and associated software, such as Power System Computer Aided Design (PSCAD).
  • Adhere to instructions and learn from experience and training.
  • Assist with the documentation and organization of project data and results.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and regulatory standards related to power systems and renewable energy.
Requirements
  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline related to electrical, power system, or renewable energy.
  • Basic knowledge of power systems, renewable energy technologies, and energy storage systems.
  • Familiarity with software tools such as PSCAD, PSS/E, ETAP, SKM, or similar is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD will be a plus.
  • The ability to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work, and exceptional organization skills required for our constantly evolving environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team-based working.
  • Presentation skills with colleagues and clients at all levels.
  • Analytical mindset and/or Strategic thinker.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer-sponsored work authorization now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Pursuing a master's degree in an engineering discipline related to power system or renewable energy.
  • FE/EIT certification.
  • Scripting/Programming (Python, C++, or other) proficiency and basic knowledge of power system software like ETAP, PSSE.
  • Working understanding of project development process and project finance.
