Shift:
Evening from 2:30 PM to 11 PM - Rotating weekends

Role Overview:The Medical Laboratory Scientist II is responsible for conducting a variety of laboratory tests in designated areas as per licensure and certification. This role typically involves analytical testing of blood and/or human biological samples.

Analytical laboratory testing necessitates a moderate to high level of theoretical knowledge and practical expertise in the relevant licensed areas.

Depending on the department and campus, various pre-analytical and post-analytical processes may be included in the customary duties; on-call hours may also be a requirement.

Adheres to laboratory policies and procedures while maintaining quality control standards. Actively engages in exceptional customer service and takes responsibility for fostering respectful relationships with all stakeholders.

  • Conducts assigned pre-analytical tasks related to laboratory testing, which may encompass equipment maintenance, function checks, inventory management, specimen collection, and cleaning of laboratory spaces.
  • Executes all required tests and analytical procedures for the designated department efficiently and accurately, in line with established protocols and performance standards.
  • Handles post-analytical tasks related to laboratory testing, ensuring accurate reporting of results, including those that are highly abnormal.
  • Provides orientation and training to new staff and medical technology students as needed, under the guidance of lab leadership.
  • Offers support and guidance to technicians and staff, resolving customer service issues and facilitating workflow as necessary.
  • Adheres to safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with chemical hygiene and infection control policies.
  • Participates in laboratory and hospital performance improvement initiatives.
  • Engages in various support activities to enhance the operation of the assigned department.
  • Contributes to the evaluation of new laboratory techniques and assists with data collection for special projects.
  • May assess competencies in accordance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of two years of technical experience is required; five years is preferred.
  • MLS or MT certification from ASCP, AAB, or AMT is required.
