POSITION SUMMARY

Under supervision, the role involves performing construction, maintenance, and repair tasks on water and wastewater utility system equipment and facilities as instructed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist in diagnosing utility system issues and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and piping challenges as directed by the Lead Maintenance Mechanic. Engage in the repair and analysis of mechanical equipment (such as pumps and motors) as required. Support the installation of new utility system enhancements and other related projects.
  2. Respond to scheduled maintenance for equipment and vehicles, ensuring that maintenance tasks are completed effectively. Attend to emergency calls as assigned.
  3. Help maintain the equipment of plants, collection, or distribution facilities; may operate a company vehicle and is responsible for its upkeep and organization.
  4. Collaborate with fellow maintenance staff to optimize the use of labor and supplies for daily operations.
  5. Maintain accurate maintenance records, including work orders and associated documentation.
  6. May assist with additional tasks such as reading meters, cleaning, painting, and managing materials.
  7. Act as a trainee in the operation of heavy machinery (backhoe, excavator, etc.) if designated.
  8. Conduct inspections of lift stations, ensuring cleanliness, proper level control settings, and documentation of readings and run times.
  9. Perform inspections of manholes, completing reports and meeting minimum quantity requirements.
  10. Carry out fire hydrant maintenance, including flushing, greasing, and painting, while documenting each hydrant's status.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must have the ability to work in wastewater treatment facilities; possess the strength and stamina for medium to heavy physical tasks, including working in confined spaces and climbing ladders. Must be able to operate various hand and power tools and construction equipment. Vision is required to read printed materials and gauges, while hearing and speech are necessary for effective communication.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Employees primarily work outdoors and may be exposed to loud noises, extreme temperatures, and hazardous materials. Interaction with the public and contractors may occur, requiring adherence to departmental policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Motor Vehicle Operator License
  • Demonstrated mechanical, electrical, or plumbing aptitude

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Class A CDL with tanker endorsement
  • Water Distribution License
  • Expertise in mechanical, electrical, or plumbing skills
  • Experience with control work
