POSITION SUMMARY

Under guidance, the role involves performing construction, maintenance, and repair tasks on water and wastewater utility system equipment and company facilities as instructed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist in examining utility systems, troubleshooting, and resolving electrical, mechanical, and piping issues as experience and training permit, under the direction of the Lead Maintenance Mechanic. Conduct repairs and maintenance on mechanical equipment such as pumps and motors as needed. Support the installation of new utility system enhancements and other related projects.
  2. Respond to scheduled maintenance for equipment and vehicles, ensuring all necessary maintenance tasks are executed. Address emergency calls as assigned.
  3. Contribute to the maintenance of equipment at plants, collection, or distribution facilities; may operate a company vehicle and is accountable for its upkeep and organization.
  4. Collaborate with fellow maintenance staff to optimize the use of labor and materials for daily operations.
  5. Maintain accurate maintenance records, including work orders and related documentation.
  6. May assist with additional tasks such as meter readings, cleaning, painting, and material handling.
  7. Act as a trainee in the operation of heavy machinery if designated.
  8. Conduct inspections of lift stations, including cleaning, adjusting controls, documenting readings, and testing alarm systems, reporting any irregularities to the Lead Technician.
  9. Perform inspections of manholes, completing reports and meeting required quantities.
  10. Oversee fire hydrant maintenance, including flushing, greasing, painting, and reporting on each hydrant while meeting required quantities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must possess the mobility to work in wastewater treatment facilities; strength and stamina to perform medium to heavy physical tasks, work in confined spaces, and operate various hand and power tools. Vision is required to read printed materials and computer screens, and color vision is necessary to interpret gauges. The role involves fieldwork requiring frequent walking to identify issues or hazards. Dexterity is needed for data entry and tool operation. Employees must be able to lift and carry materials weighing up to 75 pounds and more with appropriate equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Employees primarily work outdoors and are exposed to loud noises, varying temperatures, inclement weather, and potential hazards from chemicals and machinery. Interaction with the public and contractors may occur, requiring adherence to departmental policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Motor Vehicle Operator License
  • Demonstrated mechanical, electrical, or plumbing aptitude

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Class A CDL with tanker endorsement
  • Water Distribution License is advantageous
  • Expertise in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing skills
  • Experience with control work is a plus
