QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in row crop and forage production, with a preference for haylage and silage. Strong mechanical skills and aptitude are essential. Experience in pivot irrigation operation and maintenance is preferred. Supervisory experience is required. This role demands a hands-on working manager with solid production management experience. Responsibilities include directing planting, chemical/fertilizer application, harvesting, and record-keeping. Inspecting equipment to ensure proper functionality and assessing fields for crop maturity and potential damage are crucial tasks. Assisting in the procurement of machinery, equipment, and supplies is also necessary. You will enforce safety regulations and interpret policies, make decisions, solve problems, analyze information, and evaluate results. Strong organizational, planning, and prioritization skills are required, along with the ability to monitor and control resources and manage material resources. You will appraise crop rotation, herbicide, pesticide, and fertilizer usage. Ensuring all documentation is securely entered into the appropriate management information and electronic file systems is vital. Collaborating with internal and external resources to ensure timely delivery and completion of all services and projects is expected. You will prioritize and delegate projects while overseeing ongoing progress. Reporting all farm-related expenses and working closely with the owner and office staff is essential. Strong communication, team-building skills, integrity, work ethic, multitasking ability, and innovative thinking are required.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is seeking an Agricultural Operations Manager who will be actively involved in crop production operations and oversee daily activities for a Colorado producer.

The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of experience in row crop and forage production and will be responsible for managing personnel, equipment, and assisting with the procurement of fertilizers, chemicals, and other inputs.

Excellent communication skills are essential as the owner is not on-site.

Farming Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, train, and supervise workers engaged in farming activities such as planting, cultivating, irrigating, overseeing harvesting, and storing crops. You will manage a team handling farming equipment, ensuring knowledge of its functions, capabilities, and limitations. Regular inspections and maintenance of equipment are required to ensure optimal performance.
  • Conduct soil analysis to determine the types and quantities of fertilizers and other amendments needed for maximum crop yield, in collaboration with consultants.
  • Oversee daily irrigation activities and implement feedback systems to minimize downtime and mitigate risks of property or crop damage due to pivot system malfunctions.
  • Manage the harvesting and storage of crops to meet cattle and dairy production goals, with custom harvesting practices.
  • Supervise the application of dry manure and compost to fields.
  • Oversee the storage, handling, and application of dairy effluent water through center pivots.
  • Maintain environmental records related to farming activities, including precipitation, pond levels, and solid application.
  • Coordinate with the farm team on specific agricultural activities.
  • Conduct weekly safety meetings with workers to ensure compliance and safety standards.
