Position Overview:

We are looking for a skilled Automation Engineer with expertise in instrumentation to contribute significantly to the execution of TPC Group's strategic initiatives. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing and implementing process control methodologies, automated programming, and field engineering within the Process Automation Department of the Technology and Engineering Group. Reporting to the Process Automation Manager, this role encompasses the design, implementation, and upkeep of automation systems, instrumentation, and measurement systems aimed at enhancing production efficiency and operational effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute robust process control strategies, including regulatory control, control sequences, and logic frameworks.
  • Work closely with Production engineers, Operations, and Maintenance teams to assess automation requirements and instrumentation needs.
  • Configure and program Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI), and other control technologies.
  • Diagnose and resolve automation system challenges to maintain seamless plant operations.
  • Conduct periodic evaluations and enhancements of alarm management systems.
  • Actively engage in HAZOP and other safety and reliability assessments.
  • Contribute to Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), Management of Change (MOC), Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR), incident investigations, and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Provide Automation Engineering expertise throughout the specification, design, development, installation, commissioning, and validation phases of process control systems for capital projects.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards in all automation and instrumentation tasks.
  • Oversee the reliability of instrumentation and measurement systems, implementing necessary improvements for ongoing performance enhancement.
  • Lead and participate in root cause analyses and other investigations related to instrumentation and measurement systems.
  • Manage equipment specifications and project scopes for instrumentation and measurement system installations. Maintain and update plant equipment documentation and Process Safety Information (PSI) as necessary.
  • Provide on-call support for emergencies and operational challenges outside standard working hours.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent professional experience.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in refining, petrochemical, or chemical plant operations, preferably in maintenance, reliability, design, or implementation roles.
  • Understanding of Process Safety Management (PSM) principles as they relate to instrumentation and measurement systems in a petrochemical context.
  • Knowledge of field instrumentation and its integration with various control systems.
  • Comprehension of process control systems, instrumentation, and industrial automation technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with DCS, PLC, SCADA systems, and related automation software and hardware.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and protocols such as OPC, Modbus, and Profibus.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Emerson DeltaV and/or Foxboro DCS is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with HAZOP studies, SIL assessments, and process safety management is preferred.
  • Solid understanding and application of IEEE, ISA, PIP, NFPA, and API standards.
