About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Engineer to lead the New Shepard Launch Operations team at Blue Origin. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and successful launch of our New Shepard spacecraft.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of system-level solutions for New Shepard, including functional definition of capabilities, performance requirements, and compliance with human flight certification standards.
  • Deliver high-reliability, high-cadence launch systems, and manage risk, configuration, and data management.
  • Develop and execute integrated test plans, and define the level of systems engineering rigor to apply based on your knowledge and judgment of the system.
  • Manage and execute gated design reviews, and develop system safety products across the element.
  • Lead root cause analysis for issues impacting system performance, and identify direct and root cause informing robust and right-sized corrective actions.
  • Provide technical mentorship and leadership for the element team, and support engineers in their work.
  • Have approval authority over technical change proposals to ensure all impacts to the system and engineering artifacts are accurately captured.
Requirements
  • Robust communication, written, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to identify, prioritize, and assign systems engineering tasks across multiple disciplines.
  • Team leadership and mentoring experience in systems engineering or related fields.
  • Experience performing Root Cause Analysis (RCA) using industry-standard methods.
  • Experience with requirement management and tools (such as DOORS).
  • Experience performing and managing system safety tools and processes such as Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), Hazardous/Operation Analysis (HAZOP), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), or other related methods.
  • Experience with aerospace or similar industry safety standards and verification methods.
  • 8+ years system development/integration experience – preferably with aerospace hardware or complicated technical systems.
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering or related technical field.
  • Familiarity with at least two of the following engineering disciplines; structures, fluids, electrical hardware, software, operations, and maintenance.
  • Ability to support up to 20% travel primarily to New Shepard's Launch Site.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications
  • M.S. degree in engineering or related technical field.
  • Experience in reliability engineering.
  • Experience related to cryogenic fluid systems and high-pressure gaseous systems.
  • Experience related to avionics signal/power test and launch operation equipment.
  • Experience related to RF communication systems for launch vehicles.
  • Experience in a safety-critical operational environment.
  • Knowledge of various discipline industry design/safety standards for aerospace and ground support systems.
