Position Overview

The Senior Electrical Engineer will oversee substation engineering and consulting services for a diverse range of clients both domestically and internationally. This role involves guiding teams in the development of electrical protection and control systems, as well as physical layout designs. Projects will vary in size, complexity, and voltage class, encompassing everything from minor distribution upgrades to extensive transmission initiatives. This position plays a crucial role in enhancing the resiliency and reliability of the electric grid, with opportunities for advancement into leadership and management roles.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading the preparation of proposals and scope development, which includes:
    • Conceptual designs and execution strategies
    • Engineering and project cost estimations along with scheduling
  • Executing engineering activities, including:
    • Designing physical substations, including yard layouts, plans, sections, details, grounding, and lightning protection
    • Arranging control building layouts, interior and exterior raceways, and auxiliary AC/DC power systems
    • Creating protection and control designs, including panel layouts, one-line diagrams, and equipment wiring
  • Conducting calculations for various studies and reports, such as grounding and load studies
  • Specifying equipment for procurement and factory acceptance testing
  • Coordinating design activities with other departments, including Civil/Structural and Transmission Line
  • Developing and enhancing processes, tools, and technology implementations
  • Providing leadership, training, and mentorship to junior engineers and team members
  • Engaging regularly with clients and external stakeholders
  • Performing quality reviews of engineering designs and documentation
  • Offering short-term field support during construction phases
  • Supporting business development and marketing initiatives
  • Participating in relay settings, 3D modeling/design, or technical committee involvement

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited program
  • Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program with successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
  • A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering is advantageous
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in electrical engineering, with a preference for EPC project experience
  • Professional Engineering License (PE) is preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of standard engineering practices and procedures
  • Strong understanding of electrical equipment design, ANSI, and IEEE Standards
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in leading design efforts for large projects and delegating tasks effectively
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical problem-solving abilities
  • Meticulous attention to detail, with strong organizational and collaborative skills
  • Ability to conduct quality reviews of detailed engineering documents
  • Willingness to travel as required
