Advanced Flight Operations Specialist

Xwing is on the lookout for a seasoned Flight Operations Specialist to enhance our team focused on the development and evaluation of our Cessna 208B Caravan equipped with the innovative AutoFlight System. This role encompasses both in-flight responsibilities as the Pilot in Command (PIC) and remote operations from a Ground Control Station.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in experimental ground and flight evaluations as the PIC and remote operator, collaborating with a diverse team.
  • Work closely with engineering and human factors teams to refine and assess the PIC and Ground Control Station interfaces.
  • Assist the Certification Team in crafting Flight Test Plans and Certification Reports, while interpreting FAA Automation guidelines to establish unique certification criteria.
  • Contribute to the design and execution of training programs for safety pilots and remote operators.
  • Develop and update operational manuals, checklists, and procedural documents.
  • Support the planning of tests, conduct hazard analyses, and compile test reports.
  • Assess proposed test maneuvers and conditions for safety and practicality.
  • Coordinate effectively with regulatory bodies, air traffic control, and airport operations.
  • Participate in the flight release process for software and hardware updates.
  • Engage in briefings and debriefings to facilitate technical and operational information exchange.
  • Interface with maintenance teams, engineers, management, media, clients, and stakeholders.
  • This role requires in-person engagement, flexible hours, and occasional travel for domestic assignments.

Required Qualifications:

  • Possession of an FAA Commercial Pilot License with Instrument Rating.
  • Current FAA Class II Medical certification.
  • A minimum of 2,000 hours of total flight experience.
  • At least 1,000 hours of pilot-in-command flight time.
  • A minimum of 250 hours of turbine flight experience.
  • Proven expertise in experimental flight testing methodologies and a strong safety culture.
  • Demonstrated application of Crew Resource Management principles.
  • Experience in Human Factors Design and Evaluation.
  • Familiarity with Part 23/25 Certification processes.
  • Strong communication and teamwork capabilities.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline, or significant developmental flight test experience for highly qualified candidates.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a recognized test pilot school.
  • Prior experience with remotely piloted or controlled aircraft.
  • Possession of an FAA ATP License and CFII.
  • Experience as a Cessna 208 Pilot in Command.
