Position Overview

As a Laboratory Support Specialist II, you will work under direct supervision to carry out a range of record-keeping responsibilities, prepare routine specimens, and perform ancillary tasks that are essential for effective testing operations. Your role will involve unpacking and documenting samples received in compliance with established regulations and guidelines. Collaborating with team members, you will contribute to ensuring timely and accurate test results.

Key Responsibilities:

Core Duties:
  • Execute all assigned tasks in accordance with internal standard operating procedures (SOPs) and external regulations, promptly reporting any compliance issues to management.
  • Maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality as per the company’s absence policy.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to all stakeholders.
  • Keep precise records and documentation, performing data entry while ensuring confidentiality for donors, patients, and employees.
  • Manage inventory effectively.
  • Package and dispatch supplies and/or specimens as required.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of equipment and workspaces.
  • Assist in the processing of bio-waste, specimens, and micro-plates.
  • Handle the receipt and preparation of samples as directed.
  • Operate the company vehicle for deliveries and pickups.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned by management.

Additional Responsibilities for Specialist II:
  • Unpack samples received from both internal and external sources.
  • Accession samples for testing, identifying any unacceptable or missing samples, labels, or documentation, and report discrepancies to the supervisor for resolution.
  • Order laboratory reagents and supplies as necessary.
  • Manage sample receipt, accessioning, handling, and disposition.
  • Assist with the maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Communicate relevant information to customers as directed.

Qualifications:
  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A valid in-state driver's license is necessary where applicable.
  • CLA Level II: Must demonstrate competency in all CLA I and II tasks.
  • CLA Level III: Requires at least 1 year of clinical laboratory experience and demonstrated competency in all CLA II and III tasks.
  • CLA Level IV: Requires at least 1 year of clinical laboratory experience, including prior experience as a Clinical Laboratory Assistant at CTS, and demonstrated competency in all CLA I, II, III, and IV tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Trainer Certification is preferred, but required for CLA IVs in Plasma Services.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Possess the necessary skills and abilities to effectively perform all assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Exhibit strong analytical, statistical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate proficient computer skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and work independently.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to understand, follow, and provide clear instructions.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects with attention to detail and minimal supervision.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute as an active team member.
  • Comprehend and apply clinical laboratory procedures and principles.

Physical & Travel Requirements:
  • 5+ hours per shift: Sitting, Standing, Handling, Finger Dexterity, Pinching.
  • 3-5 hours per shift: Lifting up to 40 pounds.
  • Up to 3 hours per shift: Walking, Climbing, bending, squatting, reaching, grasping items, and driving.
  • Travel: Less than 5%.
