Job Overview

Position Summary

As the Lead Supply Chain Strategist at Murray's Cheese, you possess a deep understanding of gourmet products and their logistics. Your primary responsibility is to manage our supply chain operations while collaborating with our procurement team and merchandising strategies. You will partner closely with the Director of Merchandising & Supply Chain to formulate, implement, and monitor purchasing strategies, focusing on key performance indicators to minimize stockouts, excess inventory, and costs while enhancing fill rates and profit margins.

Key Responsibilities

Purchasing, Planning, and Forecasting

  • Oversee and manage all procurement activities for Murray's NYC operations, including direct imports and domestic orders.
  • Lead the purchasing team, guiding them to optimize inventory levels and ensure product availability.
  • Collaborate with merchandising and sales teams to utilize historical sales data for accurate demand forecasting.
  • Ensure vendor compliance with contracts and purchasing protocols.
  • Utilize ERP systems to analyze product requirements, fill rates, and profit margins.
  • Contribute to departmental projects, cost-saving initiatives, and product development efforts.
  • Negotiate with suppliers to secure favorable pricing and service agreements.
  • Work with the Director of Merchandising and Supply Chain to establish purchasing guidelines and ensure vendor adherence.
  • Support food safety compliance by working with vendors to meet all safety standards.
  • Monitor inventory levels and open purchase orders to ensure sufficient stock for current demand.
  • Engage with key stakeholders from various departments on sales planning and execution, maintaining clear communication regarding inventory updates.
  • Analyze and enhance supply chain processes, developing efficient delivery methods as necessary.

Inventory and System Management

  • Manage the monthly inventory process across all NYC locations, coordinating schedules and team communication.
  • Act as a liaison for the Receiving team, addressing stock shortages and quality issues with vendors.
  • Ensure regular updates and maintenance of ERP and related software for accurate item costing.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications for Success

  • A minimum of 4 years in a purchasing role within the specialty foods sector.
  • At least 1 year in a managerial capacity with direct reports.
  • Strong analytical and project management skills, with the ability to interpret inventory data effectively.
  • A sense of urgency in meeting deadlines and resolving issues.
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and detail-oriented.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with enterprise resource planning software (e.g., Net Suite, SAP).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, adaptable to various audiences.
  • A Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business, operations, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
