The Community Banking Associate plays a vital role in the acquisition, development, and retention of commercial, residential, and select consumer loans. This position emphasizes the importance of cross-selling the bank's diverse services within community markets through a strategic relationship-building approach. Success in this role is measured by new loan and deposit growth, fee income generation, referrals to other business lines, and effective portfolio management, including maintaining asset quality. The individual in this role will manage a portfolio of up to $20 million, encompassing a significant number of loans. This position typically operates in markets with populations under 500,000.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with prospects and clients through relationship-based selling, acting as a trusted advisor to help them identify opportunities and mitigate risks while achieving their financial objectives using the bank's products and services.
- Establish and negotiate the terms for extending commercial credit, including cost, risk assessment, and profitability, while determining the method, schedule, and collateral requirements.
- Analyze financial data to assess a customer's creditworthiness.
- Present recommendations to the loan committee, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the credits under consideration.
- Oversee the profitability of all commercial relationships within the assigned portfolio.
- Monitor loan repayment activities, manage collections of overdue accounts, and address credit and collateral deficiencies.
- Ensure adherence to loan policies and procedures, maintaining complete documentation to facilitate satisfactory reviews from both internal and external audits.
- Communicate and negotiate with applicants regarding the terms determined by consumer credit underwriting, including costs, repayment methods, schedules, and collateral requirements.
- Actively participate in community engagement through membership in business organizations, community events, and non-profit initiatives to enhance the bank's reputation.
- Achieve individual performance goals while contributing to a collaborative team environment to meet departmental and organizational objectives. Set and accomplish challenging goals independently while fostering a positive team atmosphere.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, policies, and procedures applicable to this position, including completing required compliance training.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience
- A Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field, or relevant work experience is preferred.
- One to two years of lending experience with basic sales skills are preferred.
- Familiarity with the local market is essential for understanding the lending landscape and potential customer base.
Computer Skills
- Proficient in MS Office applications.
- Familiarity with lending software is required.
Certifications and Licenses
- NMLS certification is required.
Additional Qualifications
