Compensation Details

Receive a living allowance of $450.00, distributed biweekly, along with an education award of $2,817.14 upon successful completion of your term.

Role Summary

The Intake Coordinator Intern will support the intake procedures for therapy and case management services. Acting as the initial point of contact for prospective clients, this role is essential in collecting client information, connecting them to suitable JFS services, and providing referrals to community resources tailored to individual needs. The intern will deliver client-focused social services within a collaborative community framework.

This is a part-time role requiring a commitment of 675 hours (24 hours per week). The intern will excel by effectively executing the following key responsibilities:

Case Management and Financial Guidance
  • Evaluate client needs and financial situations while ensuring access to government benefits and addressing immediate concerns.
  • Identify obstacles to self-sufficiency and assess clients' capabilities to find additional resources.
  • Assist clients in developing and managing personal budgets.
  • Set short-term and long-term objectives, creating and implementing individualized care plans aimed at achieving self-sufficiency.
Support for Basic Needs
  • Review and assess financial assistance requests based on individual circumstances and established guidelines.
  • Provide additional social services as necessary, including advocacy, service linkage, and collaboration with other providers.
  • Guide clients in navigating eligible services such as SNAP, Medicaid/CHIP, housing, and other relevant resources.
  • Build a network of referrals to various agencies and community resources.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of referrals for service delivery to clients.
Collaboration Efforts
  • Refer clients to counseling services when appropriate and work collaboratively with all Shalom Austin staff to meet client and community needs.
  • Engage with other institutions and professionals within the Jewish community and the broader Austin mental health and social services network.
  • Coordinate with JFS staff to ensure that tasks such as scheduling rides and appointments are completed for each client.
Documentation and Record Management
  • Track and document client progress towards financial and self-sufficiency goals.
  • Maintain strict client confidentiality.
  • Utilize assessment tools to document client progress effectively.
  • Keep detailed, accurate, and well-organized documentation for client files.
  • Provide statistical data regarding service delivery.
  • Manage financial aid funds, balancing guidelines with client needs.
Community Engagement and Education
  • Foster positive relationships with community partners and resources.
  • Participate in ongoing outreach and community engagement through psychoeducation, events, collaboration, and networking.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional time management and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities and cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.
  • Comfortable working independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience in an office environment is preferred.
