Job Summary

The Clinical Dietitian III plays a vital role in providing high-quality patient care at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford. As a member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, this position requires a strong understanding of the Nutrition Care Process and the ability to apply it effectively in pediatric patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments using anthropometric, medical/clinical, biochemical, radiologic, diet history, and physical examination data.
  • Evaluate the need for and appropriateness of enteral and/or parenteral nutrition support and recommend suitable modes of feeding.
  • Provide nutrition and/or nutrition support therapy education to individuals, patients, clients, caregivers, and/or groups as appropriate.
  • Serve as a mentor and/or resource to other practitioners, including dietitians level I and level II.
  • Participate in periodic review of enteral and parenteral nutrition formularies to include new products, equipment review, and selection and applicable policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in dietetics, foods and nutrition, or a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university.
  • Completion of a didactic program in dietetics and supervised practice program approved by the Accreditation Council for Education and Dietetics.
  • Minimum of five years of directly related work experience, including two years pediatric specific.
  • RD/RDN (Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist) - Valid credential as a Registered Dietitian / Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD) issued by the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics' Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • Specialty certification in one of the following (within one year of appointment to level III): Certified Specialist in Pediatric Nutrition (CSP), Certified Specialist in Renal Nutrition (CSR), Certified Specialist in Oncology (CSO), Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD), Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES), Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC), Certified Nutrition Support Dietitian (CNSD), International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), Certified Eating Disorder Registered Dietitian (CEDRD), Registered Dietitian Nutritionist-Advanced Practitioner, (RDN-AP), Registered Dietitian-Advanced Practitioner, (RD-AP).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge and application of nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy in pediatric patients, especially in specialty area within pediatrics.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written, verbal, and electronic form to patients, public, hospital/clinic, and medical staff, and physicians.
  • Ability to function independently on assigned patient care units and/or outpatient clinics.
  • Excellent counseling skills and the ability to relate to a multi-ethnic community and varied learning levels.
  • Critical thinking to integrate facts, informed opinions, active listening, and observations.
  • Decision making, problem solving, and collaboration.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish productive working relationships with multidisciplinary team and support services.
