Position Overview

The Business Development (BD) Specialist plays a crucial role within our centralized BD function. This function collaborates across our practice groups, industry sectors, and client account teams to provide optimal support for the BD activities and initiatives aimed at achieving their commercial and marketing objectives.

This BD Specialist position is tailored to support our Financial Institutions and Private Equity sectors. The BD Specialist will assist senior BD team members, partners, and other attorneys within the respective teams for which they are accountable.

This role serves as a pivotal step in the career progression of our business development team, leading to opportunities within our embedded teams in management roles.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate closely with senior business development teams in the Financial Institutions and Private Equity sectors to achieve their objectives as outlined in their business plans.
  • Assist with specific industry, priority area, regional, or practice-related business and client development initiatives.
  • Support client programs within the industry or practice as needed, including aiding relevant practice, industry, and client team members, as well as partners and associates on key priority client targets.
  • Utilize the Firm's systems (finance, marketing, and others) to bolster industry, practice, and client development efforts.
  • Assist and lead, where feasible, on RFP responses.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the industries and their priority areas.
  • Conduct analysis and support industry and practice meetings and updates as appropriate.
  • Regularly review and utilize financial reports to assist industry, practice, and client development efforts.
  • Perform client, market, sector, and decision-maker research and analysis as required.
  • Aid in the production and maintenance of relevant credentials and related materials regarding capabilities and experience across pertinent practice groups, including lawyers' biographies, deal lists, brochures, and capability statements in support of client targeting efforts.
  • Help update and maintain external practice and lawyer pages on the Firm's website and bio tool system.
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of all pitches, proposals, and business opportunities in the Firm's CRM system, including pitch win/loss ratios and reasons for success/failure.
  • Maintain and promote the use of the Firm's matter experience database to uphold credentials and business development activities.
  • Assist with the collection of accolades and the establishment of a precedent library for use in proposals, awards, ranking submissions, and other contexts.
  • Lead the submissions process for legal directories (Chambers and Partners, Legal 500, and others), respective league tables, and award bodies, including coaching lawyers for directory interviews, providing feedback, and reporting on rankings and awards.
  • Collaborate with the Firm's Creative Services and Marketing Technology teams to coordinate the production, distribution, and evaluation of client alerts, newsletters, and other White & Case publications, including the creation and maintenance of relevant mailing lists.
  • Proactively engage with the Firm's Communications Team to enhance the profile and positioning of the group, both internally and externally.
  • Actively contribute to the Firm's social media programs and activities.
  • Assist in organizing internal and external events, including building relationships with key external organizations.
  • Support internal communication strategies and activities.
  • Facilitate information sharing and relationship building with colleagues across the Firm to ensure an integrated industry and practice offering.
Qualifications
  • Graduate with relevant and extensive business development experience in a professional services firm (minimum three years).
  • Relevant legal practice experience, including marketing experience or a postgraduate qualification in law would be a distinct advantage.
  • Experience in a professional services environment, ideally within a partnership.
  • Proven ability to engage with senior stakeholders and work both collaboratively and independently.
  • Exceptional communication skills - both written and verbal - with the ability to craft BD and marketing content tailored to specific clients/opportunities.
  • Strong research and analytical skills to gather pertinent information to support senior BD and partners and the strategy of the groups.
  • Capable of managing multiple initiatives concurrently.
  • Flexible, dedicated, and enthusiastic.
