Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Patient Access Liaison to join our team at Danbury Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating patient flow through the system, ensuring a seamless registration and scheduling experience for patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greets patients and staff promptly and professionally, checking them into the system and providing direction based on appointment location, financial clearance, and counseling status.
  • Responds to telephone calls according to established customer service standards, providing requested information to callers and contributing to the reduction of abandoned call rates, call length, and average speed answered.
  • Performs accurate searches and selections of patients within the hospital system, maintaining the integrity of the Electronic Master Patient Index (EMPI) and ensuring the accuracy of patient identification.
  • Schedules appointments for services from patients directly or physician's offices, following designated protocols and clinical EMRs.
  • Performs registration functions, entering accurate and complete demographic and financial information to aid in securing payment for services rendered.
  • Verifies insurance eligibility and executes payor requirements as needed, including initiating eligibility transactions via the internet and contacting payors to obtain billing information and authorization.
  • Provides estimates for services when appropriate, communicates and actively solicits patient liability.
  • Enters testing orders in the appropriate system when necessary, requiring an understanding of coding, procedural protocols, and the charge description master.
  • Obtains signatures for all required organization, state, and federal consents and notifications.
  • Remains compliant, current, and knowledgeable with Department Policies and Procedures, fulfilling all compliance responsibilities related to the position, including HIPAA, EMTALA, and Patient Bill of Rights.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent with a minimum of 2 years of job-related experience.
  • Associate degree with 6 months of job-related experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a job-related field preferred.
  • Basic MS Word and MS Excel skills.
  • Customer Service and organizational skills.
Desired Criteria
  • National Association of Healthcare Access Management (NAHAM) certification within one year of hire.
