Position Overview:
Kingsbridge Heights Community Center (KHCC) is a well-established, multi-service not-for-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of Bronx residents. Our mission is to provide comprehensive resources that support education and well-being from early childhood through career advancement. Serving over 5,000 families each year, KHCC fosters an inclusive environment for diverse populations, including children with special needs, low-income families, recent immigrants, survivors of abuse, and at-risk youth.
The role of the College and Career Counselor is pivotal in guiding high school students as they formulate thorough postsecondary plans. This is achieved through personalized advising sessions, family engagement initiatives, educational workshops, college and career exploration trips, and interactive career panels. Each counselor will manage a designated caseload of students, with a particular emphasis on juniors and seniors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all facets of college and career programming at KHCC's Student Success Centers, including outreach, recruitment, registration, and daily management of college office activities.
- Provide tailored college and career counseling to a significant number of students, focusing on financial aid, college selection, application processes, and enrollment.
- Engage with students interested in vocational training and alternative post-secondary pathways.
- Design and execute college and career workshops and events tailored to various grade levels and educational trajectories.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with partner schools to support the Student Success Center's initiatives.
- Establish partnerships with community organizations, colleges, and counseling networks to enhance educational opportunities for KHCC participants.
- Foster positive relationships with youth through daily activities, ensuring appropriate supervision and behavior management.
- Stay updated on developments in college access, including financial aid options and programs for low-income students.
- Supervise high school and college-aged peer counselors and bridge coaches.
- Assist in organizing college-related trips and events based on the needs of students and partner schools.
- Maintain accurate data tracking systems for KHCC and relevant educational authorities, preparing reports for funding purposes.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, and perform various physical tasks. Occasionally, it may be necessary to move quickly or lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Vision capabilities must include close and distance vision, with the ability to adjust focus as needed.
