At NorthBay Health, the Financial Services Verification Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely pre-registration and financial analysis for both scheduled and unscheduled patient admissions, outpatient procedures, and ambulatory services. This position involves scheduling appointments, verifying patient eligibility, benefits, and coverage limitations, as well as collecting necessary payments or arranging financial plans to meet patient obligations.
The Specialist is responsible for securing all required authorizations and collaborating with case management to fulfill reporting and utilization review requirements, thereby maximizing reimbursement opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Engage in educational discussions with patients to clarify their coverage eligibility and benefits, including coordination of benefits, authorization statuses, estimated charges, and outstanding financial responsibilities.
2. Proactively address patient concerns and, when necessary, refer them to other members of the Patient Access or Financial Counseling teams for further assistance.
3. Uphold a standard of professionalism and empathy, ensuring confidentiality and presenting oneself appropriately while demonstrating excellent communication skills.
4. Assist the QA/Training Coordinator and Exceptional Experience Coaches in training initiatives and quality improvement projects within the department.
5. Consistently meet or exceed departmental expectations regarding productivity, financial management, and patient satisfaction metrics.

Qualifications
- Education: An Associate Degree is preferred.
- Certification: Relevant certification in Patient Access and/or Revenue Cycle from a recognized healthcare credentialing organization is required within 12 months of hire.
- Experience:
- A minimum of five years of customer engagement experience in a healthcare revenue cycle setting is required.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to articulate thoughts effectively in discussions. Extensive experience with insurance health plans and knowledge of billing regulations is required, along with a preference for phone-based customer service experience.
- Expertise in differentiating the unique characteristics of various insurance types, including Medi-Cal, Medicare, Managed Care, Indemnity, and Workers Compensation, along with their eligibility requirements and benefit coordination.
- Understanding the impact of accurate registration/admission processes on successful claims processing and payment receipt.
- Recognizing the importance of accurate registration in delivering quality patient care.
- Performance Standards: Adhere to established policies and procedures, demonstrating punctuality and attendance.
- Physical Requirements: Attendance is essential for this role. The physical demands may include slight to moderate exertion.

Hourly Pay Range MIN $35.36 (Offered hourly rate based on relevant experience in a similar role).
