Job Summary

The Chief Development and Communications Officer serves as a key leadership team member, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer. This role is responsible for creating, leading, and implementing an integrated communications and resource development strategy to enhance Union Station Homeless Services' visibility, impact, and financial resources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive development plan, including major gifts, grants, special events, corporate and foundation support, and annual giving.
  • Lead the development and implementation of a communications strategy, including public relations, marketing, and social media functions.
  • Supervise a team of development and communications professionals, providing guidance and support to ensure successful fundraising and communication efforts.
  • Build and maintain relationships with institutional leaders, donors, and stakeholders to secure funding and support for Union Station Homeless Services' programs and services.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors and other key stakeholders to develop and implement fundraising and communication strategies.
  • Develop and manage budgets, ensuring effective resource allocation and financial management.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in development and communications, applying this knowledge to enhance Union Station Homeless Services' fundraising and communication efforts.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in development and communications, with a proven track record of success in fundraising and leadership roles.
  • Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) or American Fundraising Professional (AFP) certification preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate staff, board members, and volunteers.
  • Deep knowledge of the Los Angeles County area philanthropic community, with a specialized focus on the Pasadena philanthropic community.
