Commodities Procurement Specialist

Job Summary

PARR is a leading provider of homebuilding supplies, solutions, and services. We are seeking a skilled Commodities Buyer to join our Purchasing Team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Procure and purchase commodity lumber and panel products, as well as other building materials, for our retail lumber locations in the Pacific Northwest.
  • Utilize market and inventory analytics to negotiate prices, programs, and contracts with vendors at the wholesale distribution and mill levels.
  • Work closely with yard management, sales management, and sales teams to establish and maintain specific product needs and volumes, focusing on cost and margin.
  • Monitor and establish inventory levels, re-order points, and replenishment systems for commodity goods at each yard.
  • Interview vendors and assess marketability of commodity items available in the marketplace.
  • Make recommendations to management and team members for adopting or deleting product lines.
  • Identify items to promote through traditional advertising, e-commerce, statement stuffers, promotions, and other channels.
  • Exercise proactive skills in assessing market trends for optimal purchasing leverage on commodity items.
  • Evaluate and maintain aggressively competitive pricing strategies in accordance with changing market trends.
  • Assist with proactive positive product claims resolutions, including verifying completeness of paperwork and timely follow-up by salespeople and suppliers.
  • Liaise with Central Trucking and outside vendors to ensure timely delivery of ordered goods.
  • Update and maintain primary and secondary vendor lists.
Requirements
  • Sales experience preferred.
  • Buying experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer, smartphone, scanner, and other necessary equipment.
  • Ability to type 30+ WPM.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Class C driver's license or reliable alternative transportation required.
  • Knowledge of lumber yard supply chain from mill to end user.
  • Ability to speak, write, and read English required.
