Job Summary:

This part-time Phlebotomy Specialist position is located at the Grayslake Outpatient Center, working 20 hours per week with a rotating Saturday schedule from 8am to 1pm.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform phlebotomy and other lab specimen collections in accordance with departmental policies, protocols, and procedures.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills to ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Process specimens in a timely manner to ensure stability and integrity of samples.
  • Review and record refrigerator temperature(s) and QC/QA records, reporting any areas of concern to maintenance for repair.
  • Understand and operate equipment pertinent to the job, following up on outstanding orders and communicating with Laboratory and/or Physician as needed.
  • Maintain a safe work environment, adhering to biohazard waste procedures and ensuring proper storage and timely pickup of biohazardous waste.
  • Perform lab-related clerical duties, including order entry, verification of test result receipt, patient information retrieval, and supply inventory management.
  • Use departmental resources efficiently, participating in efforts to reduce costs and streamline work processes.
  • Adhere to continuing education expectations, completing and signing off on competency assessments.
  • Demonstrate teamwork and interact with others in a professional manner, applying critical thinking and sound decision-making to investigate and resolve challenging situations.
