Role Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Supervisor/Manager, the Lead Phlebotomy Specialist is accountable for the daily performance, organization, and scheduling of the staff assigned to centralized phlebotomy services.

This role is essential in ensuring that the services provided meet customer expectations and align with laboratory policies.

Effective communication with shift supervisors and other hospital/laboratory personnel is crucial to fostering teamwork.

Additionally, the Lead Phlebotomy Specialist, in collaboration with the Supervisor, plays a key role in gathering information and facilitating staff development and training.

This position is a hands-on leadership role, requiring the Lead Phlebotomy Specialist to engage in phlebotomy duties while overseeing the team.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the recruitment, training, and evaluation of phlebotomy service personnel.
  • Educate less-experienced staff on phlebotomy procedures.
  • Provide coaching and develop performance improvement plans for team members not meeting established standards.
  • Facilitate communication and problem-solving efforts both within and between departments.
  • Perform all essential duties of a phlebotomist.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels for phlebotomy services.
  • Offer coverage during staff absences and vacations.
  • Contribute to the revision and enhancement of the phlebotomy training program.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of policies and procedures related to phlebotomy services.
