The Lead Phlebotomy Specialist is responsible for providing guidance and leadership to the phlebotomy team, ensuring high standards in phlebotomy practices and specimen handling. This role requires proficiency in all aspects of phlebotomy services and specimen processing.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assists in the recruitment, training, and assessment of phlebotomy personnel.
2. Educates less experienced staff on phlebotomy techniques and best practices.
3. Develops performance improvement plans for team members who require additional support.
4. Acts as a role model, fostering a respectful and collaborative environment while promoting the organization's Values & Standards of Behavior.
5. Facilitates effective communication and problem-solving across departments.
6. Performs all duties associated with phlebotomy.
7. Maintains expertise as a phlebotomist.
8. Aids in ensuring adequate staffing levels for phlebotomy services.
9. Provides coverage during staff absences and vacations.
10. Demonstrates flexibility to cover various shifts and areas within phlebotomy.
11. Oversees the organization and inventory of necessary supplies.
12. Participates in evaluating and recommending new procedures and technologies.
13. Assists in the revision and enhancement of the phlebotomy training program.
14. Contributes to the development and maintenance of policies and procedures related to phlebotomy services.
15. Ensures effective communication between phlebotomy staff and laboratory management.
16. Promotes a team-oriented approach to enhance quality and productivity within the laboratory.
17. Supports the General Laboratory Supervisor as needed.
18. Keeps abreast of laboratory CAP standards and aids management in compliance efforts.
19. Reports any medically related concerns to the appropriate medical authority.
20. Maintains open communication with the General Laboratory Supervisor, Laboratory Manager, Medical Director, and Administrative Laboratory Director.
