The MDS Coordinator - Case Mix Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of Minimum Data Set (MDS) assessments and care plans for residents in our skilled nursing facilities. This position requires a strong understanding of Case-Mix, the Federal Medicare PPDS process, and Medicaid reimbursement.
- Interdisciplinary Team Collaboration
- Ensure the Interdisciplinary team makes decisions for completing or not completing additional MDS assessments based on clinical criteria.
- MDS Assessment and Coding
- Complete accurate coding of the MDS with information obtained via medical record review, observation, and interview with facility staff, resident, and family members.
- Data Entry and Management
- Maintain frequent and accurate data entry of resident information into appropriate computerized MDS programs.
- Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Comply with federal and state regulations regarding completion and coordination of the RAI process.
- Monitor MDS and care plan documentation for all residents, ensuring documentation is present in the medical record to support MDS coding.
- Communication and Collaboration
- Attend interdisciplinary team meetings, quality assurance meetings, and other meetings to gather information, communicate changes, and maintain and update records.
To be successful in this role, the MDS Coordinator - Case Mix Specialist must have:
- Excellent knowledge of Case-Mix, the Federal Medicare PPDS process, and Medicaid reimbursement.
- Thorough understanding of the Quality indicator process, OBRA regulations, and Minimum Data Set.
- Knowledge of the care planning process.
- Experience with MDS 3.0.
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse.
