Job Summary

The Family Advocate II plays a vital role in supporting the Head Start program by providing a learning environment that fosters each child's age-appropriate development and prepares them for a smooth transition into kindergarten and beyond. This position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with families, teachers, and community-based service organizations.

Key Responsibilities

* Manage a caseload of families and conduct regular home visits to ensure compliance with established requirements
* Disseminate and collect materials related to services available to families
* Interview parents and compile mandated background information to assist families in identifying and attaining milestones of family goals
* Maintain outreach and recruitment efforts to ensure site enrollment of eligible children and actively participate in re-involvement efforts
* Establish and maintain child files, collect, maintain, update, and disseminate information as needed
* Facilitate parent activities and training, ensuring parent participation and involvement
* Provide health-related services to children, including vision and hearing screenings
* Establish and maintain contacts with community-based service organizations and resources, initiating and following up on referral processes in conjunction with families, teachers, and service support staff

Requirements

* Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment, and education verifications
* Valid California Driver License or have means to other easily accessible transportation
* Valid first aid and CPR certifications

Health Requirements

* Proof of TB clearance within 6 months prior to hire
* Annual Influenza vaccination (between Aug 1 – Dec 1)
* Pertussis (whooping cough) and measles immunization

Health screening at the time of employment

Education and Experience

* Bachelor's Degree in Social Services, Health, or related field
* 1 year experience in monitoring and tracking computer data
* Minimum of 3 months of case work management

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience working in social work, case management, or as a health or parent involvement aid in a related program
* Bilingual in English and Spanish (written and verbal)
