Position Overview

Timmons Group is in search of a skilled and dedicated Senior Landscape Architect Project Leader.

Our esteemed landscape architecture and land planning division provides a comprehensive array of services for commercial, mixed-use, parks and open spaces, energy and renewables, educational institutions, multi-family housing, and governmental clients across various sectors.

Employing a multidisciplinary strategy from initial concept through to construction, we design exceptional and sustainable landscapes across all scales, catering to a wide range of markets and clientele.


We are looking for a seasoned project leader to work closely with the landscape architecture teams in our regional offices.

As a Senior Project Leader, you will effectively oversee all project phases, collaborate with external consultants on significant projects, and guide team members in their professional development and career progression.

Ideal candidates should possess a passion for the built environment, be self-driven, appreciate design at every level, and thrive in a collaborative studio environment.

Key Responsibilities

Project and Task Management (55-65%)

- Supervise and manage internal landscape architecture and civil engineering project teams in planning, site layout, and landscape design documentation.
- Oversee external consultants and project teams in planning, site layout, and construction documentation.
- Foster and maintain client relationships.
- Collaborate with Directors to facilitate concept visioning sessions.
- Ensure quality assurance and quality control from concept through documentation.
- Work closely with project managers to uphold project timelines, budgets, milestones, and deliverables, while effectively communicating this information to team members.

Design and Technical Production (5-15%)

- Collaborate with project managers and team members on diverse project types and scales.
- Assist project teams in developing design documents through all project phases.
- Support teams in preparing construction cost estimates and specifications.
- Communicate with external vendors throughout the design process.
- Engage in construction administration responsibilities.

Department Operations (10-15%)

- Work with Directors to foster innovation, design initiatives, standards, and organizational structure within the landscape architecture department.


- Coordinate with Directors and firm leadership on strategic planning and visioning, establishing a clear business strategy for the landscape architecture department.

- Collaborate with project managers and design teams to create organizational systems.

- Mentor staff in their professional growth, development, and career advancement; advocate for landscape architecture at Timmons Group.

Marketing and Business Development (10-15%)

- Develop design proposals for private sector projects.
- Prepare responses to public RFPs and qualifications-based proposals, including presentations and interviews for prospective work.


- Assist Marketing and Directors in enhancing Timmons Group's brand recognition, positioning, and impact through business development, awards, and market awareness.

- Build and sustain strong A/E partnerships and collaborative relationships to position for strategic projects and pursuits.

Administrative Management, Marketing, and Training (10-20%)

- Participate in weekly and monthly meetings to coordinate projects and work plans.
- Review project budgets, manage billing and invoicing, and analyze monthly reports.
- Engage in recruitment, training, and onboarding of new team members.
- Take part in training and professional development opportunities.


- Act as a committed mentor for Timmons Group's future talent; build a talent pipeline through recruiting and outreach with local design communities and educational institutions.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of 12 years of professional experience in landscape architecture is preferred.
- Professional registration as a Virginia Licensed Landscape Architect or the ability to obtain reciprocity swiftly.
- Team-oriented with exceptional design, graphic, communication, and presentation skills.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Proven experience in producing high-quality concept presentations and documentation sets.
- Demonstrated ability in project accounting and managing project schedules and budgets.
- Experience in construction administration and specifications.
- Background in business development and client relations.
- Familiarity with both in-office and remote project management.
- Proficiency in design software including AutoCAD, Land F/X, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, and 3D modeling programs.
- Understanding of Microsoft Suite applications, BlueBeam PDF, and construction management software.
- LEED or SITES Accreditation is preferred but not mandatory.
