Job Overview

The Patient Financial Services Specialist is tasked with organizing and managing daily functions to ensure high-quality financial services for patients and efficient access to care. Key responsibilities encompass administrative support, coding, billing, payment collection, and contributing to process enhancements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Document all prior authorization details, including approval dates, billing units, procedure codes, and authorization numbers in the patient profile.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of information requested and verify that all necessary supporting documents are included.
  • Monitor requests for prior authorization in accordance with company standards.
  • Assist in compiling medical necessity documentation to facilitate approvals and ensure timely follow-up.
  • Collaborate with various departments to support the prior authorization and appeals process.
  • Proactively manage prior authorizations nearing expiration.
  • Conduct insurance verification for new and existing patients, review incoming authorizations, and accurately input data into the electronic medical records system (EMR).
  • Determine patient financial responsibility as dictated by insurance providers.
  • Research and confirm patient demographic information using online verification systems.
  • Verify insurance eligibility, obtain authorizations, and identify different types of insurance coverage and limitations.
  • Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage with diverse groups, including healthcare providers, staff, patients, and their families.
  • Utilize analytical skills to assess patients' financial responsibilities across departments based on established guidelines.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in the department and across other departments to ensure seamless and high-quality patient care.
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently, and resolve issues effectively.
  • Exhibit a high degree of professionalism and accountability.
  • A high school diploma is required.
  • Billing Certification is required.
  • Proficient computer skills and knowledge of EMR systems are essential.

Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of one year of experience in the healthcare sector is required, including Medicare/Medical and HMO electronic claims submission.
  • Familiarity with the medical authorization process for various types of insurance, including accessing health plan portals, is essential.
  • Experience in an Oncology or Imaging environment is highly desirable.
