Job Overview

The Healthcare Billing Specialist (Authorizations) plays a crucial role in managing and coordinating daily operations to deliver high-quality patient financial services and ensure efficient access to services for all patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Document all prior authorization details, including approval dates, billing units, procedure codes, and authorization numbers in the patient profile.
  • Assess the accuracy and completeness of requested information and ensure all supporting documents are included.
  • Handle requests for prior authorization and monitor them closely within established company standards.
  • Assist in compiling medical necessity documentation to facilitate approvals and ensure timely follow-ups.
  • Collaborate with various departments to aid in obtaining prior authorizations and appeals.
  • Proactively manage prior authorizations nearing expiration.
  • Conduct insurance verification for new and existing patients, review incoming authorizations, and accurately input data into the electronic medical records system (EMR).
  • Determine patient financial responsibilities as dictated by insurance providers.
  • Research and confirm patient demographic information through online verification systems.
  • Verify insurance eligibility, obtain authorizations, and identify different types of insurance coverage and limitations.
  • Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage with diverse populations, including physicians, employees, patients, and families.
  • Utilize analytical skills to evaluate patients' financial responsibilities across departments based on provided guidelines.
  • Work collaboratively with others, ensuring continuity and quality of care.
  • Demonstrate the ability to multi-task, work independently, and solve problems effectively.
  • Exhibit a high level of professionalism and accountability.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma is required.
  • Billing Certification is mandatory.
  • Proficient computer skills and knowledge of EMR systems are essential.

Experience

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in the healthcare industry is required, including Medicare/Medical and HMO electronic claims submission.
  • Familiarity with the medical authorization process for various types of medical insurance is essential.
  • Experience in an Oncology and/or Imaging setting is highly preferred.
