Make a Difference in Healthcare

Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) is dedicated to delivering outstanding healthcare services to all individuals, particularly those in underserved communities with limited access to medical care. Established over 50 years ago by a community advocate, FHCSD has evolved into one of the largest community health organizations in the nation. With a network of over 62 locations and serving more than 227,000 patients, we offer a comprehensive range of healthcare and outreach services tailored to a diverse population. We take pride in our mission, our significant community contributions, and the rich cultural diversity of our workforce.

We are currently seeking a Healthcare Coding Compliance Analyst to conduct thorough audits of coding and billing practices, ensuring adherence to departmental, state, and federal regulations. This role involves reviewing and analyzing medical records and abstracted data to verify the accuracy of payment and code assignments. The analyst may also engage in coding and abstracting clinic medical records to support reimbursement, research, and compliance with federal standards, utilizing ICD, CPT-4, and HCPCS classification systems. Additionally, this position will provide support to healthcare providers and clinic personnel regarding coding inquiries.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Meticulously document audit findings in a timely manner and update coding manuals and procedure guidelines for the coding team.
  • Accurately assign codes to records in accordance with ICD, HCPCS/CPT coding standards and within the deadlines set by the department.
  • Conduct audits of coding and billing processes, as well as provider documentation, to ensure compliance with relevant regulations. Review and analyze medical records and abstracted data to assess the accuracy of payment and code assignments.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to staff, including healthcare providers and supervisors, regarding compliance matters. Effectively communicate with providers and clinic staff on coding issues and conduct research to resolve queries.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Medical Record Technology, Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or a closely related field is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in medical coding is required.
  • CPC Certification is mandatory.
  • CPCO Certification (Certified Professional Compliance Officer) or CPMA (Certified Professional Medical Auditor) is required.
  • Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience that equips the candidate with the necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities to fulfill the essential job functions, while meeting any required state or federal certification standards.
  • RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certifications are strongly preferred.
  • Experience with third-party billing and reimbursement, particularly with Medi-Cal, is required.

Benefits:

  • Job Type: Regular Full-time
  • Competitive Salary with Comprehensive Benefits
  • Retirement Plan with Employer Matching
  • Paid Time Off, Extended Sick Leave, and Paid Holidays
  • Medical/Dental/Vision/FSA/Life Insurance
  • Employee Discounts and Wellness Programs

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to community health and the provision of culturally competent care to underserved populations.

We emphasize the importance of pay transparency and would like to share the base salary range for this position, excluding fringe benefits or potential bonuses. Your final base salary will be determined based on various factors, including geographic location, skills, education, and experience. We also prioritize pay equity and consider the internal equity of our current team members in the final offer process. Please note that the mentioned range reflects our reasonable expectations for this role, and hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical to allow for future salary growth. We offer a generous compensation and benefits package.
