Code Compliance Officer II

The Code Compliance Officer II serves as a pivotal role within the Code Compliance Officer series, allowing the individual to enhance their professional knowledge and skills in code enforcement. Under general oversight, the officer engages in a variety of field and administrative tasks associated with the inspection of both new and existing properties, ensuring adherence to state and local regulations. This position involves monitoring and enforcing various ordinances, codes, and regulations related to property upkeep, zoning, land use, public health, safety issues, and other community concerns.
Incumbents will conduct routine inspections while gaining familiarity with jurisdictional policies and specific inspection methodologies. Employees at this level are expected to exercise discretion and judgment in their duties, operating independently on a broader range of code enforcement responsibilities.
Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to manage assigned duties effectively, seek guidance on complex cases, and prepare necessary documentation. Proficiency in relevant codes and database systems, along with basic computer skills, is essential. A positive demeanor and the capacity to collaborate with colleagues and the public are also crucial.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Foster respectful and cooperative relationships with the public and jurisdictional staff.
- Communicate clearly and promptly with all stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records and manage confidential information related to code enforcement activities.
- Uphold all legal standards and provide testimony in code enforcement cases as necessary.
- Achieve proficiency in utilizing existing databases and resources.
- Safeguard all assigned company and jurisdictional property.
- Adhere to established operating procedures and directives.
- Perform additional related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Mandatory
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid Class "C" California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to obtain Certified Code Enforcement Officer Certification within two years.
- Completion of PC 832 Certification within six months of appointment.
- Capability to fulfill the job requirements of a Code Compliance Officer II.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Possession of a Certified Code Enforcement Officer Certification.
- Completion of relevant technical or college-level coursework in code enforcement or related fields.
- Experience as a Code Enforcement Officer I for at least two years.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team setting.
- Flexibility to adapt and overcome challenges.
- Occasional exposure to difficult interactions with the public.
- Physical capability to perform tasks that require standing, bending, and climbing.
- Work involves both office and field activities, with exposure to various weather conditions.
- Travel to various locations as required.
