Position Summary:

The Patient Care Technician plays a crucial role in delivering a range of clinical and environmental services under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. This role requires specialized training and skills that align with the technician's progression through an accredited nursing program. The technician is expected to embody the mission, vision, and values of Rush while adhering to established policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the RN in Patient Care Delivery: Collaborates with the charge Registered Nurse to receive assignments. Ensures a safe environment for patients.
  • Prioritize Duties: Organizes tasks based on patient and unit needs under RN guidance.
  • Implement Care Plans: Assists in executing personalized care strategies as directed by the Registered Nurse.
  • Assist with Daily Living Activities: Aids patients in their daily routines and activities.
  • Data Collection: Accurately gathers patient information and documents care in the appropriate records.
  • Perform Routine Procedures: Conducts standard procedures, treatments, and specimen collections while maintaining aseptic techniques.
  • Support Advanced Procedures: Aids the nurse or physician during complex procedures and manages uncomplicated tubes and drains.
  • Patient Transport: Assists with the admission, discharge, and transportation of patients, as well as laboratory specimens and personal belongings.
  • Technology Utilization: Demonstrates proficiency in communication systems and electronic health records.
  • Maintain a Safe Environment: Ensures patient rooms are organized and stocked according to unit standards.
  • Professional Interactions: Communicates effectively with team members and demonstrates initiative in work habits.

Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in an accredited nursing program with satisfactory academic performance.
  • Completion of a fundamental nursing course covering essential nursing skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of the institutional screening examination.
  • Ability to address basic problem-solving tasks.
  • Strong communication and customer service abilities.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to navigate throughout the Medical Center, stand or walk for extended periods, and lift or carry objects weighing 35-40 lbs. Capable of supporting and positioning patients, including those exceeding 300 lbs. Work conditions may involve exposure to potentially infectious materials and hazardous substances.
