Position Overview: Senior Electrical Engineer

City Light & Power, Inc. is expanding its engineering division and is in search of a dedicated Senior Electrical Engineer with a Professional Engineer (PE) license and over 8 years of experience in the engineering and utility sectors.

As a well-established electric utility solutions provider, City Light & Power, Inc. has over two decades of expertise in the ownership, enhancement, maintenance, and operation of electrical utility systems.

We deliver a comprehensive suite of power system engineering services tailored for a diverse clientele, including investor-owned utilities, municipalities, cooperatives, governmental entities, industrial sectors, and commercial enterprises.



Key Responsibilities:
1. Design and develop sub-transmission systems, substations, switching stations, and intricate commercial/industrial power distribution networks.

2. Generate conceptual design alternatives, perform engineering calculations, and prepare engineering estimates for small-scale system enhancement projects related to substations and distribution networks.

3. Create and review sophisticated electrical system models, validating various system study outcomes and recommendations.
4. Formulate electrical specifications for significant electrical equipment.
5. Construct system models for large-scale power systems using ETAP or similar software, conducting various power system analyses and studies.
6. Develop bills of materials and technical specifications for multiple electrical initiatives. Schedule and participate in field assessments with clients, subcontractors, and construction teams to ascertain project requirements.
7. Execute field evaluations for estimating purposes.
8. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices, procedures, and standards pertinent to utility power distribution systems.
9. Update and manage GIS databases for extensive electrical distribution systems.

10. Conduct site surveys for major upgrade initiatives, develop conceptual designs, and present these designs to management and clients.

11. Prepare cost assessments for large-scale electric distribution and substation projects.
12. Stay informed about utility industry standards and regulations, ensuring compliance with all applicable standards and codes for operations and maintenance, as well as new installations.
13. Analyze electrical fault occurrences, power quality challenges, and system loading scenarios, assisting teams in implementing corrective measures.
14. Maintain an in-depth understanding of power system protection and relaying schemes for electrical distribution systems.
15. Engage in the estimate review process with both internal and external stakeholders.
16. Support construction teams throughout the project lifecycle by tracking and clarifying the basis of cost estimates.
17. Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and support to foster their professional development.

Project Management Responsibilities:
1. Prepare project construction timelines.
2. Submit requests for information to clients.
3. Serve as the primary contact for projects, facilitating the design and review processes.

4. Coordinate meetings, provide scheduling updates, submit deliverables, and address outstanding items as requested by clients.


Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution with a focus on power systems is required.
2. A valid PE License is mandatory.
3. A minimum of eight (8) years of professional experience in the electrical utility sector.
4. Expert knowledge of medium voltage electrical substations and distribution systems is essential.
5. Proficiency in power system analysis, distribution system modeling, and protective device coordination is required.
6. Experience in interpreting blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time/cost/labor estimates for projects and services is necessary.
7. Ability to develop and maintain construction project schedules using Microsoft Project.
8. Familiarity with ETAP or similar software is preferred.
9. Strong team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Travel Requirements:
Up to 20% travel to client sites may be necessary.

Additional Requirements:
1. U.S. citizenship is required.
2. A valid driver’s license is necessary.
3. Candidates must be able to obtain Military Base Security Access Clearance.

Compensation and Benefits:
We provide a competitive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and life insurance, a 401k plan with company contributions, paid time off, and paid holidays.

Salary Range:
$138,000-$168,000 based on experience, with eligibility for participation in a Short Term Incentive Plan. We reserve the right to adjust compensation based on factors unrelated to sex.
